Imaam al-Shaafi’i Rahimahullaah said: ‘There is nobody except that he has someone who loves him and someone who hates him. So if that’s the case, let a person be with the people who are obedient to Allaah `Azza Wa Jall.’

Hadhrat Amr Bin Al Aas Radhiallahu Anhu

(50 BH - 43 AH)

Abu Abdullah, Amr bin Al-Aas bin Waail Al-Suhmi Al-Qurashi RA conquered Egypt and was one of the valiant, champions of the Arabs. He was shrewd and astute both before and after Islam.

It was he whom the Quraysh sent to the Negus (who was the emperor of Al-Habashah), to request that he turn over to him the Muslims that were with him. The Negus refused. He was one of the great and intense enemies of Islam, but eventually became a Muslim six months before the conquest of Makkah. He pledged his fealty to the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him).

The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) dispatched him to Dthat Sulaasul, to head the army. He remained there for the duration of (the Khulaafahs) of Abu Bakr and Umar RA. ‘Ubaid bin Jaraah emplaced him over Oman.

During the period of Abu Bakr RA, he was made one of the leaders of the armies in Ash-Shaam, for the purpose of Jihad. He continued in that posting during the period of Umar bin Al-Khattaab RA. It was he who conquered Qinasreen and reconciled the people of Halab (Aleppo), Manbij and Intaakiyah (Antioch).

Umar RA appointed him as ruler of Filistine (Palestine). He then advanced to conquer Egypt and remained there as ruler until the death of Umar RA. Uthman RA kept him in that post for four years, then removed him, transferring him back to Filistine. He remained there until the murder of Uthman RA. He then proceeded to Mu'aawiyah RA and was present with him at (the Battle of) Sifeen (between Ali RA and Mu'aawiyah RA) and was one of the two arbitrators, between them.

When Mu'aawiyah RA succeeded as Khalifah, he returned him to Egypt as governor over it, where he remained until he died in the year 43 AH. He was buried in Muqattam. He narrated thirty-nine Hadith of the Prophet (Peace be upon him).
