| As-Salaam alaikum, Abu Musa al-Asha'ri, may Allah be pleased with him, recounts that the Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, once said:--
"There is a Sadaqah due on every Muslim: If he cannot give because he has no money, let him work. Then he can support himself and give charity. If he is unable to work, then let him help someone in need of his help. If he cannot do this, then let him enjoin good. If he cannot do that, then he should do no evil nor harm others. (Even) this shall be written for him as sadaqah." (Ahmad)
Related to this, a careful perusal of the KITAB AL-AADAB and HUSN AL-KHULUQ in Hadith Literature indicates that there are many kinds of Sadaqah we can give, which carry lots of reward that money cannot buy, such as:--
1. Simple smile... giving that friendly smiling face to your brother in Islam attracts reward from Allah Ta'ala.
2. Sincere Advice... This could be anything from helping someone secure employment to providing them with ways of becoming more disciplined/organized in daily life.
3. Feeding the poor or the homeless.
4. Visiting the sick and
5. Praying for others...whereby the Messenger of Allah, alaihi salaat was-salaam, said: "The quickest prayer to be answered is one's supplication for his brother in his absence" (Bukhari)... thus keeping others in our sincere Du'a requires selflessness... the very kernel of brotherhood. Best Wishes. | |
