Imaam al-Shaafi’i Rahimahullaah said: ‘There is nobody except that he has someone who loves him and someone who hates him. So if that’s the case, let a person be with the people who are obedient to Allaah `Azza Wa Jall.’

Muslim :: Book 27 : Hadith 5584

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying: Do not abuse Time, for it is Allah Who is the Time.

I don't understand

wa alaykumus salaam

I remember some people discussing this....they talked about ya know when people say (usually oldies) summat like 'this time is like this,or this generation...theres many burglaries' (as an example)...to say it like that....in reality its not the the actual 'time' but the people...if that makes sense....

Dunno if there is another explanation.

That hadeeth has many narrations with lots of different wordings, it explains itself in another narration by saying: "I alternate the night and the day".

What it means is that do not swear time*, because it is only a creation of Allaah and can do nothing of its own accord, so when you swear it then you are actually swearing Allaah because it is Allaah who is causing that thing to happen.

When any calamity like death or loss of wealth etc used to befall the mushrikeen they used to say: "Yaa khaybatad dahr", which means something like "Oh useless time!"

So Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu 'Alayhi wa sallam said in this hadeeth not to swear time, because by doing so you are swearing Allaah who is the actual One that is controlling the time.
