What's limit of contemplating on the ayaat of Allah? I don't understand... because like, we can't make up our own interpretations.. but then we can contemplate.. but what's the difference? How far can one go?

You can go as far as what is permissable, as long as you're not making new stuff up or anything of the sort then it's fine.

Okay firstly what is contemplation?

To contemplate on an aayah is to reflect upon what it's saying, understand the wisdom behind it, and see how true it is and how it applies to our lives.

Take for instance surah ghaashiyah, when Allaah starts speaking of people not looking to the camel to see how it was created, in that aayah and the following ones the mental picture is of a person standing next to his camel. Because when a person looks at his camel and admires how it was created, then you will naturally be looking up and hence see the sky, and so comes the next aayah of looking at how the sky was raised, then as the person lowers his eyes he'll see the mountains which in turn will be the next aayah as to how the mountains were placed as pegs, and his gaze will then see the ground and that will be the last aayah where Allaah speaks of how the ground has been spread out.

This is a minor contemplation of the words which are clear in the qur'aan, and you see how easy Allaah has made things that even when Allaah is advising you you do not have to exert any effort to do it.

And you can go deeper and contemplate why Allaah decided to mention these particular things and so on and so forth but you get the picture.

Contemplation doesn't require you to make up anything new, because everything is already there.

Was there specifically something you were contemplating?
