Upon his return to Egypt in 1950, he published an account of his stay in the United States in the Egyptian magazine Al‐Risala under the title, “The America I Have Seen.” The same account was later included in a book edited by Abd al‐Fattah al‐ Khalidi under the telling title, Amrika min al‐Dakhil bi‐Minzar Sayyid Qutb (America from the Inside through the Eyes of Sayyid Qutb). The title page has a drawing of the American flag shown partly folded with a blood‐stained, black‐ striped flag beneath it. America may appear to be one thing, but inside it is something else totally.
